The virtues for the month of November are “gratitude” and “generosity”. Gratitude is the virtue that leads us to take note of the gifts that we receive each day. Generosity is defined as “letting others get the credit or praise. It is giving without having expectations of the other person.”

Please add to your calendars: Thursday, December 18, 7:00 pm, OLPH Christmas program at Notre Dame High School. More details to come.

I wanted to take the opportunity to personally thank many of the volunteers who were so generous with their time and talents. Leslie Smith did a fantastic job designing the Ram Run brochures. Anne Bordash once again used her creative skills to produce the t-shirts and posters. Way to go Anne! Paul Smith and Chris Thomas, of course, donated the Chattanooga Market, not to mention their time and energy to make the Run such a success. Kathy Sumrell was awesome. All of the Home & School staff was terrific. Everyone who donated – THANK YOU! Scott Harris was so helpful with the donating of the printing and sponsoring. The list goes on. All of the “small” efforts amounted to so much. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to show up at 7:00 am, in the dark, the day of the race and Roger Qualey was already there looking at me with his kind face ready to work. It was such a relief. And people just kept showing up anxious to help. Kudos to all of you! Colleen Courter Teal

Children’s Christmas Choir (for 5:30 pm Christmas Eve Mass): Children age 8 and older will rehearse in the church, December 3rd, 10th, and 17th, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Instruments as well as singers are welcome. Please call the church office at 622-7232 if you have any questions.

Parents, if you have pictures from any OLPH School event (Ram Run, Oktoberfest, Saints dress-up day, Halloween parties, sports, etc.), please send them to Miss Fones or Ms. Sumrell for use in the yearbook. Pictures can be on a disk or hard copy, or can be emailed to gfones@catholicweb.com or ksumrell@catholicweb.com

OLPH FOOD DRIVE: Please help the 3rd grade Brownie troop gather food for the OLPH Church food pantry and Ladies of Charity. The food theme for November is “lunch items” – canned soup, tuna fish, peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti, canned fruit, etc. Boxes are located in the entryway of each school building. Different food themes will be announced each month. Also, a reminder that OLPH Church “Good Samaritan” food drive is the first Sunday of every month.

Stock up now for your holiday baking needs! The Notre Dame High School Band is selling pecans, almonds, and cashews. They are sold in one pound bags, for $7.00 per bag. See Mary Curtiss in the school cafeteria.

Santa is on his way! We are in need of a Christmas committee to help us organize our “Evening with Santa” scheduled for Friday, December 5, at 7:00 pm (this is a change of date from the original school calendar which reads “Breakfast with Santa” on Sat., Dec. 6). If interested please call Beth Tapley at 423-290-0766, or email Homeandschool@catholicweb.com

“EVENING WITH SANTA” and OLPH Parish Fish Fry – You are invited to attend an evening of Christmas fun, food and fellowship on Friday, December 5th at OLPH (changed from original calendar date of Saturday, Dec. 6th). Begin with the First Friday Eucharistic Celebration at 5:00 pm, followed by the Knights of Columbus First Friday Fish Fry in the PLC, and then join the OLPH Home & School for an “Evening with Santa” at 7:00 pm in the OLPH School gym. While at an “Evening with Santa” enjoy cookies and milk, games, door prizes, and BINGO for kids from 0 to 99! Santa and Mrs. Clause will be visiting OLPH that night and pictures with Santa will be taken for a donation of $1.00. Please join the OLPH Parish community for some Christmas fun!

There are several grades who have met their BOX TOPS goals! The first, second, third, and fifth graders have met their goals. The other grades need the following number of Box Tops to meet their goals: Kindergarten – 198; fourth – 379; sixth – 109; seventh – 441; and eighth – 802. Those grades who meet their goal will receive a special treat before the Christmas break!

Third Annual Sugar ‘n Spice Luncheon for OLPH Parish is forming their committee for the spring luncheon. The luncheon promotes the virtues of modesty, chastity and Christian family life. It is open to ladies of all ages. If you are interested in joining this committee call or email Gail Raabe at 423-364-2461 or raabef@comcast.net

ART NEWS – Mrs. Meinert is looking for a volunteer/s to help her on Wednesdays on a regular basis. This will involve hanging up art work, taking down art work, replacing clay objects in our display cabinets, etc. If you can help once in a while please call her at 867-9538 (home) or 227-9229 (cell).
